Riding bikes is fun, right? RIGHT?!

Well, it’s not so fun when you hear that cycling was responsible for more head injuries than the head injuries suffered in baseball and football combined.

The New York Times wrote that, “according to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, cycling accidents played a role in about 86,000 of the 447,000 sports-related head injuries treated in emergency rooms in 2009. Football accounted for 47,000 of those head injuries, and baseball played a role in 38,394.”

This info really makes you think about how important wearing a helmet is.

Bike helmets will save you from concussions, right? Maybe not

You’ve probably heard a ton throughout the years that bike helmets will aid in your brain not falling out of your head in case you wreck. That’s still true, but the folks over at Bicycling Magazine say that you should also think about how helmets don’t necessarily protect you from the less bloody wrecks. Damages concussions can instill have been making news lately, mostly due to the NFL, but the connection between bike helmets and concussions should be receiving more attention.
